Bonus Module:
The Gentleman

This special one hour lesson teaches chivalry and door holding.  It covers the essence of a gentleman who thinks about the good of others, is honorable, courteous, trustworthy, manages anger and acts with calm confidence.

The word "etiquette" originates from the court of Louis IV, when, in 17th Century France, he erected small signs in his garden to ensure no one was trampling his flowers and behaving unduly.  The rules of social etiquette can feel like secrets without the signs. But when discovered, they reveal a brand new world for a child.

Building Confidence

Children will encounter situations where manners are needed like addressing a new adult, dining at a friend's house, writing a thank you note and spending the weekend at Grandma's house. Not having the little signs or tools to know what to do results in a lack of confidence.  Giving your child training and rehearsing for the situations they will face is a passport to success.  And preparing them early enough to be automatic is most important.

Universal and Timeless

Good manners are recognized by everyone.  They are universal and unite people everywhere.  Manners that have been forgotten can be found and used again anytime.

Lasting Impressions

The social grace used by your child is held in the memories of others.  Equipping children with the gift of good manners gives them the opportunity to build a positive impression that follows them for life.

About

The Lessons

Module 1:
Self Presentation

In this series of classes, we address presenting oneself properly including posture, facial expression, entrances and departures, greetings and introductions. From shaking hands to magic words, this module forms the foundation of the manners education.

Module 2:
Communication

Verbal, written and electronic communication are all covered in this module so children can express themselves gracefully in all mediums.  We learn the essence of good verbal conversation, feedback and listening, thank you notes and more.

Module 3:
Home and Away

Everyday manners help form the basis of a peaceful home.  And when leaving home, children are in a multitude of places and situations from school to parties and from airplanes to restaurants where manners smooth the way.  This module is tailored to the situations each age group will encounter.

Module 4:
Dining

Preventing dinner table anxiety by learning and using proper table manners when a child is young imparts confidence that last a lifetime.

The completion of this, the final module, culminates in an afternoon high tea at the Getty Center Museum.
